ARTIST STATEMENT

Like most 90′s kids I was raised on a healthy diet of sugary cereals and brightly coloured television shows. My work reflects this period of life through a vibrantly spray-painted nostalgic haze of pop-culture imagery. My practice now aims to mimic and expose the devices of mass media and advertising by juxtaposing and subverting images of contemporary pop-culture to expose this socially accepted modern capitalist culture that society has created.

THE REFOUND PIECE

Generally my paintings have a set process I work with which gives my work a contemporary look and finish, but for this piece I just wanted to enhance the vintage appeal that initially drew me to the pieces. Rather than force my current style I explored decoupage, a technique I’ve always dabbled with. The inspiration came from the late 80′s Motley Crue hit ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’. I used images from an old book I’ve had for years which was falling apart so it was great to breath new life into two items that were on there last legs, to create something new to be enjoyed for years to come.
